China Police Face Torture Allegations

Two Chinese police officials resigned and four officers faces possible charges after a suspect died allegedly after being horrifically tortured while in custody, state media said Monday.

The case in the central province of Henan follows a string of incidents of police brutality last year that stirred public anger nationwide and sparked a government investigation into police conduct at detention centers.

Theft suspect Wang Yahui was arrested on February 18 in Henan's Lushan county and died three days later while being interrogated by police amid signs he was tortured, said Xinhua news agency.

The Global Times newspaper said Wang's parents took pictures of his body showing a hole in his skull, his nipples cut off and injuries to his genitals.

His back was also covered with bruises, it said.
